Crikey ! Not only am I a patronising racist pig, but also a Gender Nazi ! Perfect qualifications for a partner-bashing cross-dresser ! Maybe I should not have been so smug, on stopping for those two couples outside Erskinevilles Imperial Hotel, on Saturday evening. They could have been my sisters. Or my brothers. Or both...

But then we are in Erskineville, dyke city, outside the Imperial, trannie heaven. It was this knowledge, which had me bemused as I pulled up. Allo, allo, allo, who we got 'ere then ? We've got two blokes and two sheilas. The besuitted blokes, are buttoned up and slicked down like twin Fatty Finns. Except they're shielas. One spots the sideburns first. The tough girls around town just can't get those sideburns right.

Their girlfriends went for standard gay, Newtown leather and pleated tartan skirts. Plus boring studs, rings and belts. Some in this tribe are walking hardware stores. How I miss the old days of comfy lipstick lesbians, smooching in pastels of pink and grey.

Still, this lot obviously had paid some attention to their act. They insisted they were dressed as pirates for a fancy dress. That may be so, but they're also off to the Metro to see the Miss Drag King finals. It's a Mardi Gras event sponsored by QQantas. (yes this is a typo, but I like the look of it, so it stays)

I told them, 'I love Erko' girls, I find they tip real heavy'. One replies, 'It's interesting you say that, as we're not from Erskineville.' Damn. They chat excitedly, perving on the Saturday night crowd, and gossiping about their girlfriends-with blokes names. After some cunning short-cuts, I deliver them right to the door, via a back alley off Pitt Street. That impresses them enough to get my tip. I love Erko' girls.
