Web Page Analyser
Just flicking around the Net when I came across this handy tool for Bloggers via Bloggingblog. I've been wondering how slow my site is loading now with the addition of images. With the free Web Page Analyser bloggers can get the lowdown on how their site loads,
Test your web site speed and improve website performance with our free web-based analyzer. Enter a URL below to calculate page size, composition, and page download time. The script calculates the size of individual elements and finds the total for each type of web page component. Based on these page characteristics the script then offers advice on how to improve page display time and website speed.
Besides providing a host of data, here's the Analysis and Recommendations it gave for cablog,
TOTAL_OBJECTS - Congratulations, the total objects on this page (including the HTML) is 1 which most browsers can multithread. Minimizing HTTP requests is key for web site optimization.
TOTAL_SIZE - Congratulations, the total size of this page is 138 bytes. This page should load in less than eight seconds on a 56Kbps connection - or 0.03 seconds. But there's always room for improvement.
HTML_SIZE - Congratulations, the total size of this HTML file is 138 bytes, which less than 20K. Assuming that you specify the HEIGHT and WIDTH of your images, this size allows your page to display content in well under 8 seconds, the average time users are willing to wait for a page to display without feedback.
Additionally, Web Page Analyser gives advice on how to speed up a site download, via Speed Tweak of the Week. These cover general tweaks, server tweaks, CSS tweaks, graphics and multilmedia tweaks, HTML and XHTML tweaks, plus javascript tweaks. Check it out fellow bloggers.

Have you changed your email address??

> 138 bytes
Something wrong there. It looks like www.cablog.com.au just opens a frameset and it is that which the analyser has, er, analysed. If you analyse your real home page, http://jafablog.typepad.com/man_of_lettuce/, you get a bunch of errors including:
TOTAL_SIZE - Warning! The total size of this page is 197410 bytes, which will load in 39.54 seconds on a 56Kbps modem. Consider reducing total page size to less than 30K to achieve sub eight second response times on 56K connections. Pages over 100K exceed most attention thresholds at 56Kbps, even with feedback.

Doh, shows how much I know. Especially at 5am. No wonder I have no dial-up visitors. Given I'm on unlimited cable at .5 or 1MBps immediate load-up, I've negligently overlooked such issues. Am now considering tweaking images and banner, indeed a whole site redesign. Damn, another specialist needed.
Also I'm about to post audios, though I don't think this will affect load speed. Fuck learning computers, all I want to do is drive, write and publish. So sorry all you dissuaded dial-uppers and ADSLers. And thanks Paul for informing me, an unreconstructed troglodyte.
Chris, my frustrated dial-up visitor, updated email in Contact Me.
