Welcome
Well the Mondo Thingo tape looked okay, which is saying something for one so self-conscious. I almost didn't watch for fear of looking pathetic. Still, I don't really like seeing myself on tape and it just confirms to me writing is my forte. Writing of the first draft variety, that is.
As expected my hits have cranked well over 1000 by midnight and counting. So by way of introduction to new visitors here's a brief history of the site...
Man of Lettuce is a moniker bestowed upon me by my best mate, passed away exactly to this hour (!) 18 months ago today. As he was my greatest supporter I dedicate all this to Paul. The moniker came about a couple of years ago after purchasing a funky PC. I started writing to newspapers, who consistently published my Letters to the Editor. From this started a correspondence with a well known journalist, who happened to own a boutique publishing company, here in Sydney.
At the same time I had latched onto blogs, via the Net. Well, the publisher invited me to submit some stories with a view to publishing a book of cab stories. That didn't eventuate so I thought, bugger it, I'll publish myself. Therefore with little knowledge of computing and even less cost I set up a blog. It's truly that simple.
The nature of my work makes it inevitable I regularly pick up journalists. Some months ago, I picked up a gossip columnist who gave me a mention in the Sunday rag. From there the ABC contacted me, initially seeking gossip. However I stalled them enough to convince them that cablogging was of more interest. And they bought it. One thing leads to another. Now I must get to bed as I'm being taped for NZ tele tomorrow at the start of the shift. As cabbies are !
Thanks for visiting and I'm humbled and heartened by the positive responses.
Cheers, Uncle Ade/

You didn't scrub up too badly on Mondo Thingo, Adrian.

G'day mate....never saw this site before, looks good, nice work.
Just interested in all the comments lately about the Labour Party being too similar to the Liberals - does that feeling go both ways? John Howard, in the mid-eighties, publicly dedicated himself to destroying Medicare - now he poses as it's biggest fan. And there's more than one example of that kind of thing. Do people think that it's only the Labor Party that's moved to the centre, or..... Interested in what people think on that one.

I thought you pulled it off brilliantly mate. Kudos to you on it. I'm not at all sure how well I would do on TV, but I'm sure it wouldn't be pretty.

Hi,
saw mondo thingo last night for the first time was quite amused, not much of an ABC fan, but this is one show i'm going to tune into now. An interesting perspective you have on life, especially as a cabbie, makes me want to catch a cab now *laughs*. Goodluck in the future, and i'll add you to my favourites list to read the updates, goodluck with the countlist!

Cheers folks. I've yet to directly record either in image, video or audio any of my passengers. Basically, they hop out and if needed I jot down the guist of the exchanges. From there I usually knock up a post after work on the PC, as I've just done with CABPOLL 5. Or if the exchange lends itself to Moblogging I'll do it immediately from the cab or later on a quiet rank.
Of course to record passengers, I first must inform them and seek their approval. This authorisation would be taped. Even then they have the right of veto later, I think. I imagine this practise will eventuate with breaking news events, such as another Redfern riot, or when Jennifer Hawkins seeks me out for an exclusive...
