Not Cricket
Thanks to the cricket on the radio yesterday afternoon I was able to deflect a harried passenger’s anxiety over some heavy traffic, at the expense of the English team.
‘So how the game going ?’, he asked. ‘Mate, the Poms are exactly where we want them’, I joked. ‘The gutless Adelaide pitch has them believing they’re actually competitive again’. ‘Good’, he responded, ‘that way they’ll go to Perth full of confidence. Then we’ll unleash the quicks on that lively pitch and really smash ‘em’.
‘That’s the plan’, I laughed, ‘so come the Sydney Test they’ll be just about broken for Warnie and MacGill to finish them off’. ‘Exactly’, he chimed in. ‘We want those Poms medi-vaced home with a battery of trauma counsellors, never to play the game again’. One die-hard fan.
After negotiating an inside lane to a red light stop, I then suggested in feigned concern, ‘But that's not really cricket though, is it ?’. With a straight face he readily agreed, ‘No, quite possibly it isn’t, but what’s the problem ?’. Cruel, but worth a good laugh, for now.
UPDATE : Last day Adelaide - England flirt with 'glorious defeat'...
UPDATE 2 : Labor Party to parachute spin messiah Shane Warne into Bennelong.

Nothing like smashing the poms, but it does get boring when we do it so easily. The loss in the previous series actually has me watching test cricket again, even the missus has begun to watch and theorize about the English game plan.

Even I'm watching this series! I think there's a new breed of cricket-watchers this series...has to be, if I'm watching! ;)

Ah, the stick-ball-AFL field game... Everyone's talking about it at the moment, and it shits me to tears...
Bring on the League season!!

Nothing like watching the Poms get smashed in cricket alright! That was an amazing game. After such high scoring, I'm still laughing that we got the poms out so cheaply and hence won! :-B

I called my brother-in-law, who's English. When he went to work that morning England were capable of securing a draw. He was almost in tears when I broke the news.
English Cricket R.I.P.
