Awards
Nominations are open for the NSW Taxi Driver of the Year award. With 10,000 bucks up for grabs it's worth a shot. Once per month I'm told, "You're the best cabbie ever !" Are they drunk ? Usually. Are they lying ? No way, I give good 'cab'. (image enlarges)
Speaking of which, Californian cabbie and blogger, Joann Landers, has won Taxi Driver of the Year award. Onya Joann, a longtime Cablog reader.
I’m not sure what exact requirements Joann had to demonstrate, aside from exemplary service, but I’m certain it didn’t involve a slalom course speed trial. This is what cabbie award entrants were required to undertake in Brighton, England,
The cabbies were driving against the clock, with time penalties for knocking down traffic cones or touching the garages.
Believe it or not. However some were not impressed by the award. Moreover, the contest was in aid of a charity appeal by the local newspaper, which four days earlier published a reader's letter concerning dangerous cabbies,
We know taxi drivers have a difficult job to do but intimidating motorists and putting lives in danger for the cost of a fare is not good practice.
Fair enough too, unless of course there's 1500 quid on offer. The concerned reader was obviously unaware of the universal maxim - never get between a cabbie and a buck.
Finally, UK cabbie George Brown has just been voted the Coolest Dad in St. Albans. With his good looks, how could he not win ?

Well I think you should definitely have some nomination forms at the ready!

Thanks Adrian, for the mention. No it did not involve a slalom course speed trial, but driving in the Bay Area of California is a bit of a contest. The owners of Yellow Cab in San Jose, California, nominated me based on customer satisfaction, clean cab etc. The judging committee also looked at my blogs. Metroblogging San Jose, and Taxi Vignettes.
Adrian, there is a Metroblogging Melbourne you might want to start up one for Sydney, in your spare time. ha-ha.
