Hot Air
The presenter of ABC's PM radio program last night seemed to suggest that hot air from air conditioners is another cause of global warming. After work I checked the transcript,
You only have to stand by the exhaust vent of a domestic air-conditioning unit on a hot day to grasp the idea that it might be contributing to global warming.
The people inside may be cool, but outside, the machine's pumping out hot air.
But many Australians may have consoled themselves with the idea that their air-conditioners are energy efficient and therefore more greenhouse friendly.
It would appear the passage is poorly written and pertains to energy consumption rather than hot air. In the meantime, how about some real global warming hilarity by Tim Blair in last Saturday's Terror (click to enlarge).

How anyone could recomend Tim Blair for anything has me beat,he would be the most ignorant, stupid blogger and must be the last supporter standing of the mess that is Iraq.
Apart from GW Bush that is,at least hes in good company there one fool supporting another

Yeah, it stands to reason A/C units are warming up the atmosphere - quick, turn them to reverse cycle and cool it down again. How embarrassment.

Take it easy there, easygoing.

Check out the Four Corners transcript (http://www.abc.net.au/4corners/content/2007/s1961538.htm), where you'll see it said that many of the cheaper home air-con units sold in Australia use 20 or more per cent more power than they are advertised as using.

From the transcript: "From the consumer's point of view, they're a good buy. They cost hundreds of dollars less than the big name brands and even if they're as inefficient as the models we tested, they'll typically cost only a few dollars more per year to run. It's the cost to Australia that matters."
But if you aren't a member of the Global Warming Religion then there is no environmental cost to consider. There is no environmental cost to Australia or the world.
This episode was a great add for Chunlan and has certainly convinced me to choose their products next time I'm in the hunt for an A/C. I only wish that 4 Corners could have spent some time on how reliable they are, % of warranty returns and how efficient Chunlan's resellers were in post sales support.
4 Corners Chunlan economic costs rating it would seem is 4.5/5.
