Dumb

As expected Cabpoll has totally consumed my working hours of late, so I've been somewhat pre-occupied capturing, compiling and collating content for the reports.

After dinner last night around midnight, I headed to a quiet rank intent on completing the task of resizing images for today's Cabpoll. My amazing phone can crop and resize images up to 2MB, measuring 2592 by 1944 pixels, down to whatever format is required. And that’s barely the half of it's image editing suite.

Some ten minutes later I instinctively realised there's wasn't that familiar bulge in the top shirt pocket which also carries my phone. Namely, my cash! After looking high and low through the cab, returning to the dinner joint, searching the windswept gutters of Surry Hills, I gave up on some $100.

"It's the first time I've lost money in over eleven years driving cabs," I lamented to other sympathetic rank drivers. At this point I considered it sheer carelessness and tried to forget about the night's wage.

At 2.30am in a gas station I was forced to pay with a Cabcharge docket and related my misery to another cabbie. "Let me guess," he said. "You keep your phone there too ?" He confirmed that he too had twice lost cash whilst extracting the phone from his top pocket. After hearing this I didn't feel so dumb.

Until ten minutes later when reaching for coins I found the 'lost' wad of notes crammed into the trouser fob pocket!? Now that's really dumb.

Know the feeling Adrian, my worst was accepting a $100 note for an $83 fare ofF the Nightlink rank in the Valley one Sunday morning (fare in advance), and realising later I had given the passenger his $17 change PLUS the C note back. D'OH !!!

mmmmm never mix cash and other stuff. That way when you are dealing with cash you should be paying more attention. Put the phone, keys, pens in another pocket. I learnt this after having 100 bucks fly out of my pocket while driving a Moke - was reaching for a card with an address on it and the cash ended up flying out over the M5!

I wish $100.. about ten years ago I was in Adelaide, setting off to drive to Melbourne, stopped off in Rundle Street for some photographic film.. wearing shorts, my wallet must have fallen out of the crappy pocket, on to the road..

According to witnesses, a blonde 30-ish woman on a blue bicycle picked it up and took it into the photo shop -as I've noticed I don't have my wallet and gone out of the shop, she's walked into the shop.. She opened it at that point, noticed over $700 in notes, and my credit cards, and told the counter assistant "Oh, I'll take it to the Police Station"..

Well, guess what? She never showed up.. so I lost all my petrol and accomodation money to some greedy, dishonest moll.. So there you go..
