Quitting
Apologies for the absence this week but as previously mentioned I've finally resolved to quit smoking. Not reduce, go for the gum or patches but totally eliminate nicotine from my life. So all week I've been slowly digesting Allen Carr's lauded method of quitting.
I was initially tempted to chronicle the exercise on a separate weblog but then thought, bugger that, why compound my travails by broadcasting to the world what a hopeless addict I've been for the last 37 years. But that's nicotine - a powerful, addictive drug.
Wish me luck, I'll need it.
UPDATE, DAY 4: So far, so good, with no sign of the 'Jason Morans'.

I do wish you the best. And should you slip, just pick yourself up and start again.
Mark Twain once said:
"Its easy to quit smoking. I've done it a thousand times."

good luck! know that your body will feel better after a while and if the temptation's overwhelming, try to smell an ashtray (no kidding - you'll envy the smell of smoke for a while, but never an old ashtray ;-)

Onya mate... hang in there!

Good luck. I gave up about 3 years ago. The most surprising thing was how doable it was. Don't believe the pessimists. If you're struggling try the gum - I swear by it.

If you're struggling have a piece of Extra and buy some packets of Beef Jerky to munch on. Takes forever to eat....
Good luck, I am keeping fingers and toes crossed for you!

So, Adrian -I hope you'll be giving a warts-and-all appraisal of the Carr Method once you've been through it?
I never started smoking, but I have friends/family who really need to quit..

Goldstein, maybe sometime later, when deemed a success. Handled the no smoking relatively easy at work last night but really feel it now at the computer.
Just have to survive the next three weeks. Apparently this initial period is the toughest whilst the nicotine is expelled from the system.
Thanks everyone, your good wishes are much appreciated.

Good on you, if you can handle driving a cab, giving up smoking should be a cinch.

I gave up with Mr Carr after smoking for 26 years. It's been two and a bit years and I honestly can't believe I ever smoked. I'm not a rabid ex smoker who hounds smokers either, just look at them and can't remember why I ever thought that sucking that filthy taste into my body and smelling like that was a good idea.
But I was really ready to quit, and I think that's the key with his method.
Good luck.

You'll do it ! Just remember for the next few weeks that a little pain or irritation is only temporary, whereas being a non smoker will last you a lifetime. When the nicotine monster is trying to win you back realize that pangs only last a little while. I'd wish you good luck but I don't think you need it.
