A shift

For some time I've been meaning to record a shift and provide details of how a night cabbie works. Last Monday was it. Whilst it's generally a quiet night I did better than normal, probably due to the start of Ramadan with a noticeable absence of Arabic drivers.

Basically I worked from 5pm to 3am, with a half hour dinner break at 11pm. Other than that and a couple of coffee breaks I was in the saddle for around 9 hours averaging 26kph. Around 230 kilometers was covered of which 45% were paid kilometeres.

Approximately 20% of paid kilometres were charged on time rather than distance. Whilst the meter can switch to time mode to account for traffic jams (under 27 kph), it is calibrated to produce equal charge rates for both time and distance.

I've compiled an interactive map of the 18 hirings, mostly single passengers (11 female/7 male) and the individual routes showing areas of travel. By clicking on the View Larger Map option a legend is provided detailing each job. Unsurprisingly for a week night, most work originated in the city or inner city and mainly involved office workers and a few socialisers. No drunks were encountered. A good night.

That is why I call TCS [the network of my choice] the champions of corporate wellfare. They don't have to do anything and still get paid. Nice work if you can get it.

It's a good thing TCS don't actually have to do anything because their management is so inept.

Look at what they have done to St George Cabs as a prime example.

love to get to gether adrian but every time i pop into the cafe your not there, anyway i'm doing this sat nite sunday monday tuesday semi's so maybe this week also look out for me on my big red fire truck i'm the one who doesn't yell abuse at cabbies when they tailgate me though traffic.
