Munted

The weekend just gone in Sydney was, as they say, massive with four nights of full-tilt boogie. The weather was bleak, bitter or unbearable so I dressed for winter.

The chill didn’t deter hordes of revellers, though, descending on the City to celebrate...having Monday off work. I still don’t know why that is, despite asking many passengers about the holiday.

No matter. When a weekend of football finales, two major music festivals and the Spring Racing Carnival take the stage there’s something for everyone to easily get swept up by the festivities.

One venue, Parklife, had six or more stages where ravers could pick a music style, drop some LSD along with two doses of GHB and slowly die at a boyfriend’s feet. This happened to a passenger travelling home with friends at the end of the night.

The bloke sitting up front announced, “Fuck man, that dubstep stage had the sickest shit I heard all day. I came away from there thinking it couldn’t get any better. I just had the best day.”

Unfortunately his mate, the aforementioned boyfriend had a lousy day. He was busy trying to do the right thing with the girlfriend, managing her 'G drop' as she slowly succumbed to the overdose. The problem was that he too was ‘totally munted’ and could barely manage himself.

She was taken to the medical tent and he was searched by the police. They found enough to lock him up and throw away the keys, seriously. The medics put the girl on a stretcher and headed for an ambulance.

“When they did that,” she recounted, “I sat up and said, no way. I ain’t going to hospital. And the dude says, but you’re dying. And I’m like, I don’t care. You can arrest me if you want but I’m not going. So I got off and left.” And they all had a good laugh. It was that sort of day.

Warning: A recent study in Sydney showed that more than 50 percent of regular GHB users have overdosed and lost consciousness...GHB overdose is a serious medical emergency and requires urgent medical care.
