Fun

Didn't work last night so I went up to the supermarket, with my fly undone. Celebrated blogger, Tony the Teacher also had some related 'fun'.

Speaking of fun, meet Queensland cabbie, Bryan Law,

I'm 53 years old. I'm a husband, a father, and a nonviolent social justice activist. I drive a taxi in Cairns for money.

Drives a taxi for money, heh. Bryan, a practitioner of Gandhian nonviolence, is due in court to defend a trespass charge brought by the Commonwealth. Needing help with a defence, Bryan unwisely appeals to master beclowner, Tim Blair, whose readers are only too happy to advise.

Speaking of Blair,

Here’s how blogging works. First you run a site for four or five years, then one day John Malkovich turns up at your house:

Seriously, hit that link for image.

UPDATE : Blair on Virgin's 9/11 farce.

Desperate

Hb22This woman is approaching 40 years of age, has shitloads of money and is desperate for a baby. Problem is, she can't find a bloke. It's such a tragic story I'm seriously considering offering my services. However I'd need to be reassured over a few concerns. First, would I have to give up a promising cabbie career ? And second, would she be prepared to forego a pre-nuptial regarding her assets ? Only fair I reckon, it's her predicament.

Body language

Years ago I arrived in the US pursuing an Aussie/Kiwi girl with whom I was madly in love. We were perfect then, or so I thought. She’d been holidaying for over a year in North America whilst I’d been working in the New South Wales bush. Finally, I missed her so much I took long service leave and jumped on a plane to tour with her.

However as we approached each other at San Francisco Airport, I knew immediately from her body language something was wrong. Whether it was her hesitant gait or pained smile, my intuition said the relationship was over. Finito. Sure enough, she’d married a local fella yet neglected to tell me. As you do. But that’s love, often blind.

Anyway, I was hanging around San Francisco for a few weeks, with her and the hubbie making small talk-like a spare prick at a wedding-when I chanced upon a Split Enz gig, at the Kabuki Theatre. Feeling homesick we both went along and witnessed a fantastic concert featuring their new album, Time and Tide...

Idolmania

After an 11 hour Sunday night-shift, with 60 hours left this week, I should be off to bed. But I’ll give you a brief cab report on the Australian Idol 2 finale, held last night at the Opera House. Only because I carried the winner in the cab recently. But first...

The City was almost a ghost town early evening, particularly during the three hour broadcast. The suburbs especially so. For all the trendy bad-mouthing of Idol around town, almost everyone stayed home to watch, it seemed.

In the cab Casey, the 16 year old winner (image here), was the popular choice by far. And it would appear she was a worthy winner. Congratulations and good luck to her...

Aussie Idols

Last night after dinner, I picked up three kids in Chatswood. Or I should say, young adults - one male and two females. The fella hopped in the front and chatted easily with his Mum on the phone, whilst the two girls quietly conversed in the back.

It soon became obvious these were no average Joes. Their talk was of music, thongs (on feet), television appearances and interviews. An air of understated confidence and excitement featured in their various conversations. Yet there was no bragging nor big-noting. Nearing their destination, I piped up, ‘Are you guys famous ?’. ‘No !’, they responded in unison. ‘Yes you are’, I insisted, ‘I know fame when I hear it !’...
